Why is the Industry Switching to R-454b Refrigerant Systems in 2026?

The shift toward R-454B refrigerant systems is primarily driven by federal environmental regulations under the AIM Act, which mandates a transition to lower global warming potential (GWP) alternatives. Starting in 2025–2026, R-454B is being adopted as the direct replacement for R-410A in residential air conditioners and heat pumps across the industry.
